magical realism author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. When I first read the whimsical
little story in high school English class about a sad and tired old man
with wings who is discovered by South American peasants and assumed to
be an angel who performed ‘consolation miracles’, I was eager
to illustrate the image that Marquez’s rich use of language conjured
up in my head. |

Amber DarlingMy name is Amber Elizabeth Darling and I am an emerging young artist living in Duluth, Minnesota . I create colorful oil paintings mostly of curious and interesting subject matter. I work mostly from photographs taken abroad or around Minnesota . Normally, I will choose photographs based on criteria involving interesting form and space and bright color combinations. My artwork is representational but not entirely photographic. Rather, the translation from photo to canvas adopts an almost dreamlike quality. That is, if you believe we all dream in color- not in black and white. My artwork is constantly changing and evolving as I explore new techniques. I have included a variety of work from my high school and college years on this website to illustrate my progress. |
